About Us
KTU Constructors, a Joint Venture, has been selected by the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) to complete the Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program, the largest bridge improvement project in Missouri history. KTU Constructors is a joint venture of Kiewit Western Co., Traylor Bros., Inc. and United Contractors, Inc. The $487 million design-build project will replace 554 bridges in 111 counties within the state of Missouri.
The Project
The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission's Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program is a two-phase program to improve 802 of the state's lowest-rated bridges by Oct. 31, 2014.
In the first phase of the program, 248 bridges have been identified for rehabilitation, and many of those are already under construction by other contractors. They are being put out for bid in groups according to location, type or size to expedite the design and construction process.
In the second phase, the remaining 554 bridges are scheduled for complete removal and replacement and have been packaged in a single Design-Build contract that was awarded to KTU Constructors on June 25, 2009. KTU has committed to complete construction of these 554 bridges by Dec. 31, 2013.
